Every child and family should have the opportunity to experience the benefits of recreation—regardless of their ability to pay.

Through the H.A.R.D. Foundation’s support of recreation scholarships, local families can access the programs, classes, camps, and activities offered by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (H.A.R.D.) at a significantly reduced cost.

In 2025 alone, more than $100,000 in scholarship assistance helped 340 local families participate in recreation opportunities that may otherwise have been out of reach. From swim lessons and summer camps to sports, fitness, and enrichment programs, these scholarships help remove financial barriers while giving children and families opportunities to learn, stay active, build confidence, and connect with their community.

The need continues to grow. That’s why expanding access to recreation remains one of the H.A.R.D. Foundation’s most important priorities.
