On a rainy April Saturday over 120 people showed up to raise funds in honor of Justin Ross. Justin was an outstanding student athlete, talented musician and brilliant artist who passed away unexpectedly in March of 2023.

Justin was a member of the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District (H.A.R.D.) team. Justin joined H.A.R.D. in late 2022 as a Program Instructor and quickly became indispensable. Justin enjoyed working with youth and especially loved coaching H.A.R.D.’s Junior Warriors. While Justin’s time with H.A.R.D. was short, his enthusiasm and love for his work left a lasting impression on his coworkers and the youth he coached.

Justin’s parents Benjamin and Regene Ross were the driving force behind Jutopia, an event to celebrate Justin and raise funds to carry on the work he loved. Those in attendance were treated to performances by Jackson Stone, Moblu, 42K.LIL, ZO1LOVE, and 5INCO. Everett & Jones BBQ provided a delicious lunch followed by desert from Cupcakin’ Bake Shop.

The H.A.R.D. Foundation thanks the Ross family and friends who worked to ensure that Jutopia was a day to remember for all in attendance. Thanks also to Recreation Supervisor Noel Munivez for his help and partnership. Together Jutopia raised $25,000 to establish a scholarship fund in Justin’s name.
