SUMMARY:Patrick Landeza and Sons Concert
DESCRIPTION:Patrick Landeza\, a native Hawaiian born and raised on the mainland United States\, found his musical roots in the songs shared with him by his mother\, Frances Kawaipūloʻu Kuakini O’Sullivan Landeza. These songs\, which are featured on his latest release\, were learned by her growing up in Hoʻolehua\, Moloka’i. The music filled cultural gaps left by his childhood in California\, providing him with a firm foundation upon which he built his musical career.Inspired by traditional slack-key music\, Patrick connected with some of kī hōʻalu’s most legendary names: Cyril Pahinui\, Raymond Kāne\, George Kuo\, and Dennis Kamakahi. Under their tutelage\, Patrick’s style of music became firmly rooted in slack-key. \nToday\, Landeza is a highly acclaimed Hawaiian slack key guitarist with numerous accolades to his name. He is a two-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner\, the first artist born and raised on the mainland United States to receive this prestigious honor. Landeza’s remarkable talent and dedication to his craft have made him a prominent figure in the world of Hawaiian music. \nNow a father of five\, Patrick follows in his mother’s footsteps by sharing the songs of his heritage with the next generation. Patrick Landeza & Sons includes Justin Firmeza (22)\, Director of Bands at Moreau Catholic High School\, and Danny Landeza (16)\, a 10th grader at Moreau Catholic. By teaching these young men the songs he was taught\, Patrick ensures that the legacy entrusted to him by his mother and many slack-key mentors will live on. \nThis evening Patrick Landeza and Sons will introduce new music featuring Hawaiian jazz influences along with Patrick’s traditional slack key guitar twists.
